Inside Line Promotions – PETALUMA, Calif. (March 10, 2019) – Jordon Mallett traveled to California for the first time to compete with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour last weekend, when he qualified for the A Main during races at Merced Speedway and Petaluma Speedway.

“Any time you go out to California to race and there are more than 50 cars trying to qualify you have to be at your absolute best,” he said. “It was great to make two shows against some really good drivers and it just proves we can compete with anybody when we are clicking.”

Friday night’s race at Merced Speedway in Merced began with a third-place finish in a heat race. That was followed by a second-place run in a qualifier. The results were good enough to lock the Greenbrier, Ark., native into the feature in the 13th starting spot.

“I wasn’t really sure what to expect heading into Merced, but overall it was just a really narrow track,” he said after finishing where he started. “It was just one of those nights where you had to try and not lose any ground and be ready to go when someone made a mistake.”

Mallett was scheduled to compete Saturday night at Placerville Speedway in Placerville, but rain forced the cancellation of the event.

A visit to Petaluma Speedway occurred on Sunday, when Mallett started fourth in a heat race and advanced forward three positions to take the checkered flag as the winner. However, the team discovered a cracked oil tank before his qualifier and as a result he did not race it.

They got the tank fixed for a B Main and moved forward three positions from the sixth starting spot to earn the final transfer into the feature. Mallett started 21st in the main event and ultimately gained two positions to finish 19th for his fourth top-20 finish of the season.

“The track lined up to my liking,” he said. “We were really good in the heat race and we were expecting to be in contention all night. Unfortunately, we had a problem that really put a damper on the night, but we still managed to get it in the show and salvage a 19th.”

Mallett will take a week off from racing and then head to Mesquite, Texas, for two days of ASCS National Tour competition at Devil’s Bowl Speedway March 20-21. He’s looking forward to returning to a track that he competed at last year.

“We switched to Triple X Chassis this season and the car has felt really good,” he said. “We have a notebook for Devil’s Bowl from last year so we’re not going in blind. If we can combine that knowledge with the new equipment I think we’ll do really well in Texas.”
