Price Earns First Top 15 of Season With ASCS National Tour in California

Inside Line Promotions – PETALUMA, Calif. (March 10, 2020) – Robbie Price picked up his first top-15 finish of the season last Sunday during the final night of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour visit to California.
“I hate to make excuses, but the pill draws basically set us back all weekend,” he said. “I think we have speed, but when you’re starting in the back every night it’s tough to do too much. At least we got it in the show both nights.”
Friday night began with a first-ever trip to Merced Speedway in Merced, where Price started fourth in a heat race and finished fifth. He lined up eighth in a qualifier and gained two positions to place sixth.
Price had to run a B Main as a result and earned the final transfer spot into the feature when he advanced two positions from fifth to third. In the A Main Price moved forward four spots for a 17th-place run, marking his first top 20 of the season.
“Friday was a tough deal as we definitely had speed, but I just wasn’t on my game honestly,” he said. “We were good enough to get in the feature and the car actually was really fast after about halfway. However, it’s a little track and because we started so far back we were a lap down early and you can only gain so much after that no matter how good the car is.”
Price was scheduled to compete on Saturday night at Placerville Speedway in Placerville before rain cancelled the night’s race.
The weekend wrapped up on Sunday at Petaluma Speedway, where it looked promising as Price started sixth in a heat race and passed two cars to finish fourth. He then placed fourth in a qualifier, which was good enough to advance him directly into the feature in the 13th starting spot.
Price maneuvered as high as 10th during the A Main, but following a late caution he struggled with handling issues and faded to 15th. The result was his best of the season through four races.
“We were really good in the heat race, but missed an opportunity to start better after we got shuffled over the curb from the outside front row during the qualifier,” he said. “We weren’t really bad in the feature, but the car just went away after that last caution so getting a top-15 finish is a small victory.”
The ASCS National Tour is off until March 20-21 when it will visit Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas. However, Price is planning to stick around California during the off week and work on his program against the local competition. The track location is to be determined depending on weather.
“We’re going to stay in California and get some more laps in and see if we can’t turn our bad luck around,” He said. “There are a few options we can go to depending on weather, but ultimately we just need to get better early in the night. Everybody is playing the pill draw game so the only way to get better period is to get faster early. Hopefully we can do that and head on down the road to Texas with some momentum.”
