Inside Line Promotions – BYRAM, Miss. (April 30, 2019) – Channin Tankersley continued his strong start to the season last Saturday at Jackson Motor Speedway, where he registered a top-five result during the King of the Wings event.
The Old School Racing driver opened the ASCS Gulf South Region and ASCS Mid-South Region race by winning a heat race from the pole position. It marked Tankersley’s third straight event with a heat win.
“We drew a good position and was able to capitalize,” he said. “We got out and set a good pace and held on.”
That earned Tankersley a spot into the feature redraw. He pulled the No. 4 to start the main event on the outside of the second row.
“I ran third for most of the race, but about the last 10 laps we backed up a bit,” he said. “The track was getting really technical. I should have been a little more aggressive. I think that would have helped us out. One corner had a good cushion and the other was marbly right on the wall. I went right through it and smoked the wall. There were a bunch of people knocking the wall down.”
Tankersley was in contention for a podium finish until he damaged the car after getting into the wall late in the race. He held on for a fifth-place outing, marking his fifth straight top five.
Tankersley, who has a 48-point lead in the ASCS Gulf South Region championship standings, is scheduled to return to ASCS Gulf South Region competition this Friday at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco, Texas.
