Bryan Hulbert – LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (March 21, 2019) Traveling just a little further east to Little Rock’s I-30 Speedway after Mother Nature put the brakes on action at the Devil’s Bowl Spring Nationals, Sam Hafertepe, Jr. was the top of the class on Saturday night with his first win of the 2019 season.
Besting a field of 27 entrants, Hafertepe’s feature event saw the Hills Racing No. 15h take the green from the right of the second row. Giving chase into slower traffic, Hafertepe grabbed the lead from Tim Crawley in the closing laps.
“We are trying a lot of new things this year so we were off a little bit in the Heat, and was a little better for the Feature, but to struggle the way we did and still win, I’m really proud of this team,” commented Hafertepe.
“Having to get around Tim Crawley at I-30 is never easy, but we were able to use lapped traffic and got the lead coming off turn two there with I think about four to go and really, that’s how we were able to get to the front period was being able to get through traffic a little better than everyone else. The will and want to win was better than the car actually was, and sometimes it just works out.”
Off this coming weekend, Hafertepe will return to I-30 Speedway on Friday, March 29 and Saturday, March 30. The two-day affair brings the ASCS Lone Star, Mid-South, and Sooner Regions together to open the three regional tour’s 2019 season.
