Misfortune Thwarts Hill’s Solid Run During Fred Brownfield Classic

Inside Line Promotions – ELMA, Wash. (July 3, 2018) – Alex Hill’s top-10 feature run during the Fred Brownfield Classic finale last Saturday night was halted by misfortune midway through the 30-lap race.
Hill was running in the eighth position during the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com event when the yellow flag waved.
“My belts came undone during the caution so I stopped,” said Hill, who started fifth. “A push truck driver came to me and I told him my belts were undone. He helped me get them fastened and then they changed the yellow to an open red. I thought I would get my spot back when the race restarted because I stopped during a yellow for a safety issue, but they made me start in the back.
“When the race resumed, it wasn’t too many laps before I got lapped since I restarted in back. My car wasn’t handling real well because it started to sprinkle. I eventually just pulled in because we really weren’t getting anywhere and I was still upset over having to restart at the back.”
Hill’s evening began strong with a win in her heat race. It was her first ASCS National Tour heat race win since 2016.
“I followed the leader for most of the race until he made a mistake in turn four coming to the white flag and was able to pass him and get the win,” said Hill, who started second. “Daryl and Ron did a great job with the car. It’s always nice to get a win and it definitely gave me some confidence.”
Friday’s opening night of the Fred Brownfield Classic was a bit of a struggle for Hill.
“Friday didn’t go too well,” she said. “The heat race was one lane around the bottom. I started second and made a mistake and finished fifth.”
Hill lined up in the sixth position in the B Main.
“The car started out pretty good, but then it got a little tight,” she said after finishing eighth. “I moved the wing, but it didn’t get any better; it just got tighter. We found out after the race that the lines to the wing were reversed. It was moving in the opposite direction that I thought I was moving it.
“I had a good time in Washington. It was nice to see that we could run fast. It was just frustrating the way the weekend ended. I want to give a big thank you to Greg Hamilton, Devo and Missy for all their hospitality the past two weekends.”
Hill will follow the ASCS National Tour to Gallatin Speedway in Belgrade, Mont., this Friday and Saturday for the Grizzly Nationals.
“I’m looking forward to another new track for me,” she said. “I don’t know much about Gallatin, but I’ll probably watch some videos of it this week.”
