Inside Line Promotions – SALINA, Kan. (June 19, 2018) – Jack Dover recorded his fifth win of the season last Friday at Jackson Motorplex, where he took the lead on Lap 19 and drove to Victory Lane in the fifth different state this season.
“It went from a really bad night to a great night,” he said. “When we pushed off to put heat in the motor to start the night the bolt that holds the mag in broke. We were trying to get that fixed. When we pulled it off the car owners saw something they weren’t used to seeing. They were ready to load up. We called the engine builder and he said that’s supposed to be there. It’s an oiler for a part in the motor. As the first heat race was going out we got the car fired up and got the timing figured out. We didn’t get any hot laps so to go from 10th to third was pretty good.”
Dover guided the Chris Bowers’ owned race car from 10th to third place in a heat race after the ominous start to the night. That earned a spot into the feature redraw and Dover got the No. 2 to start the A Main on the outside of the front row.
“I watched the features real close before us,” he said. “It looked like the track would do the same thing it did two weeks ago and sure enough it did. I freed the car up in the beginning. When the rubber hit the leader couldn’t rotate as well and we closed on his bumper. He got behind a lapped car and missed a corner. I was able to sneak underneath of him. I knew if I held the bottom line nobody would pass me.”
Dover stayed within striking distance for the first half of the 30-lap race before an opportunity presented itself on Lap 19. Dover took advantage and pulled away to win for the fifth time in the last seven races.
The weekend concluded on Saturday at Salina Speedway, which hosted the final round of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com Speedweek. Dover won a heat race from the pole position to lock into the feature redraw. He pulled the No. 6 to start the A Main on the outside of the third row.
“The first 10 laps the track was slick and I didn’t have the car tight enough,” he said. “Then rubber came in and it turned into a one-lane track. We ran around eighth the rest of the race. We don’t run with the ASCS National Tour very often so it was good to judge how good we really are and to learn.”
Dover, who ended eighth, will return to Jackson Motorplex this Friday before racing at Off Road Raceway in Norfolk, Neb., on Saturday with the Carpet Land Nebraska 360 Sprints and Midwest Sprint Touring Series.
