Carney Ready to Pursue ASCS Speedweek Title

Lonnie Wheatley, EL PASO, Texas (June 7, 2018) – Six races at six different tracks throughout three different states over the course of nine nights. That’s the task at hand for John Carney II beginning on Friday night with the Lucas Oil ASCS Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek.

The six-race journey begins with three Texas venues starting at Lubbock’s West Texas Raceway on Friday night and then Amarillo’s Route 66 Motor Speedway on Saturday night before shifting to Mesquite’s Devil’s Bowl Speedway near Dallas on Tuesday.

From there, a pair of Oklahoma events await at Lawton Speedway next Wednesday (June 13) and Sapulpa’s Creek County Speedway on Thursday (June 14) before wrapping up at Kansas’ Salina Speedway on Saturday, June 16.

It’s a slate of events that Carney finds to his liking.

“We’ve had success at several of those tracks,” Carney says. “We’ve won races at Amarillo and Devil’s Bowl, and we’ve fast in some Regional races at Lawton but just haven’t had luck with the National guys there. And we won a National show at Creek County. It’s a lot of tracks that we can do well at.”

With four overall wins already to his credit this year including his most recent weekend outing in ASCS Southwest competition at Las Cruces over Memorial Day weekend, Carney knows a combination of preparation and good fortune is key in capturing the ASCS Speedweek title.

“It takes a little bit every day, I think that we’ll be prepared for it,” Carney comments. “A few breaks along the way never hurts, a little luck goes a long way.”

Prepared for the run of six races over nine nights, Carney is ready to get it all going when the green flag flies at Lubbock’s West Texas Raceway on Friday night.
