Tankersley Victorious During ASCS Gulf South Region Season Opener at GTRP

Inside Line Promotions – BEAUMONT, Texas (May 22, 2018) – Channin Tankersley won the ASCS Gulf South Region season opener for the first time in his career last Saturday at Golden Triangle Raceway Park.

The win also extends Tankersley’s streak of top-four finishes at the track to five consecutive races. He has also recorded at least one top-10 result at the oval during the last 10 years it was open.

“That’s our best opening weekend ever,” he said. “I’d never won opening night. It was pretty cool to get that first win out of the way.”

Tankersley and the Bruce Griffith owned team maneuvered from fifth to third place during a heat race to start the night. That earned enough points to make the feature redraw. Tankersley pulled the third-highest number – six – to start the A Main on the outside of the third row.

“The first 10 or so laps we were average and didn’t go anywhere,” he said. “The car started freeing up toward the middle of the race. We kept getting better and better. We had it too snug at the beginning. When the last half of the race everyone was too free we were really good. We could go to the top or the bottom. We had the same speed anywhere we went. “

Tankersley took the lead just after the midpoint of the race and cruised to the triumph.

He is slated to compete this Friday at RPM Speedway in Crandall, Texas, and Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, with the ASCS Gulf South Region.
