Inside Line Promotions – SELINSGROVE, Pa. (May 7, 2018) – Trey Starks earned his career-best Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour presented by SawBlade.com result last Saturday at Selinsgrove Speedway, where he moved forward every time he was on the track to cap the night with a runner-up result.

“It’s nice to run the 410 at these tracks and then jump in the 360,” he said. “It slows it down and the 410 experience gave us laps, which was an advantage over some of the ASCS drivers. I felt pretty good going into the weekend knowing we had a handful of laps at both tracks and it seemed to pay off.”

The Gobrecht Motorsports driver maneuvered from fifth to third place in a heat race and from fourth to second place in a qualifier to rank fourth in overall points out of more than 40 competitors during the ASCS National Tour and United Racing Club co-sanctioned event titled the Battle of the Groves.

“We kept plugging away all night and moving forward,” he said. “It was a nice and racy track all through the night. In the heat race it seemed like we could be anywhere from sixth to second at any point in time.”

Starks started the A Main on the outside of the second row, but quickly advanced into the runner-up position. He stalked the leader throughout the duration of the 25-lap main event before finishing second, which was his season-best result.

“We got a spot on the start and then got into second in the first couple of laps,” he said. “I tried to chase down (Blane Heimbach) all race. He’s one of the best guys there. He has a ton of laps there. When we first hit lapped traffic I pulled right up on him. He started putting cars down a lap and I struggled with a couple so he got away from us.”

The weekend began on Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., where Starks overcame a sixth-place heat race result by charging from 10th to fourth place in a qualifier. That ranked him 15th in overall points to lock into the ASCS National Tour and United Racing Club main event.

“After the heat we found a bad left rear shock,” he said. “When we got that fixed it seemed to tighten everything up. We got a good start to the qualifier and picked up a handful of cars, which gave us a lot of points.

“I felt really confident in my car going into the A Main. We didn’t get a good start. I think we fell back to almost 20th. The inside lane just didn’t get going and there was a car that almost stopped in front of us. We had some work to do. Fortunately we had a good enough car to move forward.”

Starks rallied from 15th to an eighth-place finish, which also earned the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.

Sunday’s show at BAPS Motor Speedway in Susquehanna, Pa., was postponed because of rain.

Starks will return to action this Friday and Saturday at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio, with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.
