Skinner Rallies to Top-10 Finish at I-30 Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Sept. 12, 2017) – Marshall Skinner recovered from an eighth-place starting spot in the B Main to score a top-10 finish in the A Main last Saturday night at I-30 Speedway.
A poor draw in a stout heat race put Skinner behind early in the evening as he started fifth in his heat and finished sixth during the ASCS Red River Region and ASCS Mid-South Region event.
“It was pretty much over with once it started,” he said. “We all just kind of fell in line. It’s kind of frustrating when you don’t draw well in a tough heat and the track is really wet so that you can’t pass.”
Skinner’s heat race finish placed him eighth on the B Main starting grid.
“I eventually got to fourth about halfway through the race,” he said. “I wasn’t very aggressive and kind of took my time. I own my own car and just have my wife helping me at the track so I can’t afford to tear anything up.”
The fourth-place finish lined Skinner up 18th in the 20-car field for the A Main.
“I passed a lot of cars on the first lap,” he said. “There were cars going to the top and cars going to the bottom going into turn one and I was able to just drive through the middle and pass them. A lot of them were good cars. But then Matt Covington and I got to racing together for almost the entire race and I just could not get by him. Eventually, Derek (Hagar) ended up getting by both of us and I finished ninth.
“But it wasn’t a bad night. We passed a lot of cars. And I’m sure it was a pretty good show to watch with all of the passing. We just haven’t had much luck in the draw lately and that pretty much determines your whole night.”
Skinner’s ninth-place result marked his 20th top 10 of the season.
He is slated to return to action this Saturday at I-30 Speedway.
