Lawrence Nets Top Five at South Texas and Top 10 at Heart O’ Texas

Inside Line Promotions – CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (Aug. 22, 2017) – Zane Lawrence earned a pair of heat race wins and two solid feature finishes last weekend during an ASCS Gulf South Region doubleheader in his home state of Texas.

Lawrence kicked off the weekend on Friday at Heart O’ Texas Speedway in Waco, where he claimed a heat race after starting on the pole. That locked him into the feature redraw, in which he pulled the No. 6 to start the main event on the outside of the third row.

“We felt pretty good in the heat race,” he said. “We were able to get out front and stay out front. That redraw kills us every time though.”

Lawrence grabbed the fifth position before he noticed his right rear tire started going flat. He pulled into the hot pits under a caution to get the tire changed. Lawrence rejoined the race at the tail end of the field and he rallied to garner a 10th-place result.

“Some other drivers had blown their right rears, but luckily we felt ours going flat soon enough that we could get it changed and get back out there to salvage a finish,” he said.

The weekend concluded on Saturday at South Texas Speedway, where Lawrence won a heat race after starting on the outside of the front row. Again that locked him into the feature redraw and this time he pulled the second-highest number – seven – during the random redraw to start the main event seventh.

Lawrence advanced a couple of positions to finish fifth, marking his 10th top-five result of the season and keeping him ranked second in the ASCS Gulf South Region championship standings with only two races remaining for the region this season.

Lawrence is slated to compete at Superbowl Speedway in Greenville, Texas, this Saturday with the NCRA Sprint Car Bandit Series.
