Dollansky dives in for 2017 Skagit Dirt Cup
Dupo, IL (June 28, 2017) Big changes came to the BDS Motorsports team on Monday when it was announced that Justin Henderson would be leaving the team in order to spend more time with his family and his growing business. With the news coming during the week of the team’s West Coast swing, team manager, Bryan Sundby quickly went to work finding a replacement driver. As the team headed to Washington, driver Craig Dollansky got the call to join the team for the next few races.
On Thursday night, Dollansky made his BDS Motorsports debut by winning his heat race, but unfortunately he missed the scales so he was disqualified. Because of the stout car count, this put the BDS #1 starting last in B-main number two. Charging hard, Craig was able to make it up to fourth, just one spot shy of a transfer position. While not the night he or the team hoped for, running up front in the heat race and moving forward in the B was a sign that it wasn’t going to take him long to get comfortable in the car.
Moving forward to Friday night, Craig would once again put the BDS machine at the front of his heat race, and this time there was no missing the scales. His heat race win put him starting fifth in a qualifier, where he ended with a seventh-place finish. Making the direct transfer to the A-main, Craig would line up 16th for the 25-lap event. Not able to move forward much, he ended night two with a 14th place finish.
On the third and final night of the Skagit Speedway Dirt Cup, Craig found himself lining up fifth in the first of two B-mains. Not going to settle for just getting a transfer spot, he quickly moved the BDS, Al Parker powered Eagle Chassis, to the front of the field, picking up the B-main win. Starting 17th in the 40-lap A-main, he did his best to move forward and was able to improve to at 13th place finish.
Although it was definitely not the weekend the BDS Motorsports team hoped for, it was a great recovery after having to replace longtime driver Justin Henderson in just a few short days. Dollansky will stay with the team for this weekend’s Fred Brownfield Classic at Gray’s Harbor Raceway; however, a decision for races after that has yet to be made. BDS Motorsports would like to thank Craig for filling in on such short notice and also thank Justin for a great four years of driving. BDS would also like to thank the over 250 drivers who sent resumes and also the over 700 text messages the team received. It is very humbling to see that many drivers interested in joining the BDS team.
In addition to all the drivers who have reached out to BDS Motorsports, the team would like to send a big thank you to all of the following businesses and people who make racing all season possible.
