Lawrence Captures Top Five at Cotton Bowl Speedway with ASCS Gulf South

Inside Line Promotions – PAIGE, Texas (June 5, 2017) – Rain shortened the scheduled race weekend for Zane Lawrence and the team last weekend in Texas with ASCS Gulf South Region.
Friday’s event was rained out and Lawrence made the trip to Cotton Bowl Speedway for Saturday’s show with fingers crossed that the rain would stay away.
A low pill draw put Lawrence on the pole for a heat race at the 3/8-mile dirt oval, where he ended second to miss making the feature redraw by only one spot.
“We were able to finally get a good pill draw for the heat race,” he said. “The track was pretty locked down in the heat race from all the rain so there wasn’t a lot of passing going on.”
Lawrence started the main event on the inside of the fifth row.
“I was able to get a good start and pass a couple of cars on the start going into turn one,” he said. “The track never widened out and was still pretty locked down for the feature, but we were able to make up some ground and break into the top five.”
Lawrence ended in the fourth position with an engine that was developing a problem.
“It started blowing up right as we took the checkered,” he said. “I’m just glad it held on that long.”
Lawrence remains second in the ASCS Gulf South Region championship standings.
He is slated to return to NCRA Sprint Bandits Series action this Saturday at Superbowl Speedway in Greenville, Texas.
