Hanks Maintains ASCS Red River Points Lead following Challenging Weekend

Inside Line Promotions – GREENVILLE, Texas (July 20, 2016) – Brandon Hanks survived a challenging weekend with the ASCS Red River Region.
Hanks overcame numerous issues throughout the two-race weekend as he now holds a 185-point lead in the championship standings with five races remaining.
The ominous weekend began on Friday at Texarkana 67 Speedway in Texarkana, Ark., where Hanks was caught up in an early incident.
“We had some problems in hot laps,” he said. “I had a guy spin in front of me. I couldn’t miss him and ended up hitting him. We had to fix the car and didn’t hardly get it fixed for the heat. It wasn’t even close to being right.”
Hanks exited the track early in the heat race, which lined him up on the outside of the seventh row for the main event.
“We made it all the way to the top five,” he said. “I think we had a podium car. The track was one lane around the bottom. To pass someone you’d have to move them or they’d have to mess up. Unfortunately, we had a fuel line come loose and the car went to missing and popping. Fuel started coming in there on me and so I pulled off.”
Hanks was running fifth midway through the feature when he pulled off the track early. He was credited with a ninth-place result.
The weekend concluded on Saturday at Superbowl Speedway, where Hanks finished third in a heat race to open the action.
“We were just so-so,” he said. “We were good, but not where we needed to be. We had another fuel leak where my shut-off valve is inside the car. I had fuel all over me again.”
This time Hanks missed the feature redraw by only one spot and he lined up ninth in the main event.
“In the first five laps the car was really good and then the track started taking rubber,” he said. “The longer the race went the tighter I got. It was getting worse and worse. I just couldn’t get off the corner like I needed to. That was hurting us.”
Hanks held on for a fifth-place result, which marked his 10th top five of the season – a single-season high for Hanks.
He is slated to head to Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa, this Saturday.
