SAPULPA, Okla. (June 20, 2016) The 24th ASCS Sizzlin’ Summer Speedweek is in the books, and Blake Hahn ended his week with four Top 10 runs and a top-five to place the Lucas Oil/JR1 Racecar No. 52 fifth in overall Speedweek points and now turns his attention to the 45th annual Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup at the Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash.
“It was a good week. The only really rough night I had was Saturday at Lucas, but we were able to bounce back from that,” said Hahn who ended having to race into Saturday’s A-Feature trough the B-Main after getting upside down in his Heat Race.
Starting off at the Route 66 Motor Speedway in Amarillo, Texas, Hahn ended his night eighth. With the Devil’s Bowl falling to rain on Tuesday, action resumed at the Lawton Speedway in Lawton, Okla. on Wednesday, June 15 with a fifth place finish.
“Lawton was good to us. We ended up drawing the pole of the Heat and won it. We were one shy of the redraw, but we were able to roll the bottom and just work our way forward.”
Moving north to the Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla. the following night, Hahn’s draw as at the back of the opening Heat Race. Advancing from eighth to fourth, Blake utilized another solid run in a Qualifier to lineup sixth in the A-Feature.
“The Qualifier helped us dig out of the draw but on the start, I got loose off of four and fell back to 11th or 12th. The track was all the way to the wall so I committed to the bottom and it worked. We were able to pick up some ground and got seventh.”
Friday, June 17 found the Lucas Oil ASCS Speedweek at the Missouri State Fair Speedway.
“Sedalia is just so big, you have to be in the right place at the right time to really move forward. The track was dusty, but it was also racy. We were able to move around, but I did the best on the bottom line. We ended up slipping backwards a little towards the end, but overall it wasn’t a bad night.”
Wrapping things up on Saturday, June 18 at the Lucas Oil Speedway, Hahn’s recovery from his Heat Race turn over placed the No. 52 21st in the starting lineup.
“Lucas had a massive cushion so I had to make the bottom work if I was going to move forward. We were able to move forward on the start and keep picking drivers off. We had to put the car back together after the Heat and it actually felt the best it’s been all year”
With Speedweek in the books, the team now begins the long haul to the Skagit Speedway in Alger, Wash. for the 45th Jim Raper Memorial Dirt Cup, happening June 23-25, 2016.
“I’m excited to get back to Skagit. The new surface should make things a lot more interesting, and I feel like I’m more prepared for the event this year. Last year, we ended up crashing out so we definitely want to redeem ourselves and get three solid finishes out of the deal.”
