Eagle Motorsports Rock ‘N Roll 50 Presented by MyRacePass Features Tough Local Contingent Versus Famed ASCS National Tour on May 3
Inside Line Promotions – OWASSO, Okla. (April 23, 2014) – Upon arriving at the Eagle Motorsports Rock ‘N Roll 50 Presented by MyRacePass, three things stand out about the TBJ Promotions event slated for Saturday, May 3, at Riverside International Speedway.
First, the surface of the quarter-mile track located on the banks of the Mississippi River in West Memphis, Ark., can become either extremely tacky or super slick, which creates an electric atmosphere of side-by-side action.
Second, the feature is 50 laps – the longest of any event on the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour – and it tests the will of every driver until the checkered flag is waved.
Third, and most importantly, the level of competition is as high as it gets across the country.
“Any time we go to Little Rock and West Memphis, I definitely feel like that’s the region that is the toughest and the locals have the best chance to dominate,” TBJ Promotions Founder Tony Bruce Jr. said.
The sixth year of the prestigious event will showcase the best battle yet as the local contingent is poised to take home the custom Gibson guitar trophy for the first time.
Heading the Arkansas drivers is Marion, Ark., resident Derek Hagar, who has four feature victories this season and who captured the season opener at Riverside International Speedway last Saturday.
“Here in the Midsouth the competition is just as good as the local competition anywhere,” he said. “When you come to Little Rock or West Memphis, you have 10 or 15 cars capable of winning. When the National drivers come to town it throws a stick in their spokes.”
Hagar, who earned his lone top five in the Rock ‘N Roll 50 during preliminary action in 2010, said if he can’t win he will root for the natives.
“I’d rather have a local win to keep the money at home,” he said. “Whenever you go out and beat the ASCS National Tour guys it shows the strength of not just yourself, but the whole series that races around here.”
Other local favorites to compete for the top prize are Cody Gardner and Tim Crawley. Gardner has claimed track championships at Riverside International Raceway as well as I-30 Speedway in nearby Little Rock, while Crawley swept the inaugural Rock ‘N Roll 50 in 2009 and won the finale in 2010 when he competed full time on the ASCS National Tour.
The Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour is led into the event by Washington native and now Oklahoma resident Seth Bergman, who picked up his first career ASCS National Tour triumph during the Rock ‘N Roll 50 in 2012.
“It’s tough with some of the locals who run there,” he said. “There’s five or six that are good enough to win when we show up. It throws more of a challenge into the mix. They’re all hungry. They all want to beat us. It adds to the show. They have a lot of fans who are rooting for them to win and for us to lose.”
Fellow ASCS National Tour driver Jeff Swindell, who is a former Riverside International Speedway track champion hailing from Tennessee, is also a favorite along with four-time ASCS National Tour champion and Missouri resident Jason Johnson.
Regardless of whether fans are supporting the local drivers or the national competitors, the Eagle Motorsports Rock ‘N Roll 50 Presented by MyRacePass is set up to be a dynamic event.
Fans can get involved online by picking a driver who they think will win and using Hashtag RR50 (#RR50) on Twitter.
